Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, addressed the National Workshop on LiFE (Lifestyle for the Environment) on January 30, 2023, calling for a shift from spreading information to spreading awareness. The Minister emphasized the need for environmental awareness to be on par with civic and moral senses, and for there to be a heightened sense of social consciousness around environmentally conscious actions.
The workshop saw participation from 60 Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) Centers from across the country, who were acknowledged for their efforts in promoting the Mission LiFE initiative.
”The Lexicon of LiFE: A-Z of Sustainable Lifestyle” Unveiled
The Minister also unveiled the new logo of the EIACP, as well as an Infographic Booklet titled “The Lexicon of LiFE: A-Z of Sustainable Lifestyle”. Aimed at students, the booklet presents simple changes that individuals can adopt to lead a sustainable lifestyle in an engaging and fun manner.
”Green Skill Development Exhibition” Showcased
The Minister inaugurated an exhibition and sale prepared by students trained under the Green Skill Development Program of the EIACP. He appreciated the variety of products, publications, and applications created by the Centers and interacted with them at their stalls.
Technical Session and Brainstorming
The second half of the workshop consisted of a technical session where the EIACP Centers were oriented and divided into seven clusters based on the seven themes of LiFE. Each cluster then held a breakaway session where they brainstormed and came up with ideas for creative, innovative, conservation-focused, and awareness-raising initiatives. These ideas will be incorporated into the EIACP’s calendar of activities.
Sensitizing the Next Generation
More than 150 school students visited the Ministry during the workshop, where they were taken on a guided tour of the exhibition and the Ministry. The students were sensitized about the Lifestyle for Environment initiative and how the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has incorporated it into the design of its green building. The students were given LiFE badges, a copy of the A-Z booklet, and a photograph to commemorate the visit.
The National Workshop on LiFE emphasized the importance of shifting from spreading information to spreading awareness for a sustainable future. The Minister’s call to action, along with the release of the new logo and Infographic Booklet, serves as a reminder of the role each individual plays in creating a greener, more sustainable world.
