In a recent address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined his vision for inclusive growth in India, emphasizing that without inclusivity, real growth cannot be achieved and without growth, the goal of inclusivity cannot be accomplished. The foundation of his government’s development policy is “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikaas,” meaning “Together with all, Development for all.”

The Importance of Inclusion in Real Growth

PM Modi posed the question, “Is right growth possible without inclusion? Can inclusion be thought of without growth?” He observed that his experiences of more than 20 years as head of government have shown him that without inclusion, real growth is not possible. In light of this, his government has adopted the way of truth through inclusivity and strived for the inclusion of every citizen.

Unprecedented Speed and Scale of Inclusion in the Last Nine Years

He also highlighted the unprecedented speed and scale of inclusion in the last nine years, citing measures such as providing free gas connections to more than 9.5 crore women, building more than 11 crore toilets for the poor, opening more than 45 crore Jandhan accounts, and providing ownership of three crore houses to the poor. He explained that the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which ensures free treatment of up to rupees 5 lakh for 50 crore people, has led to increased demand and better growth and opportunities as almost one-third of India’s population now has access to quality healthcare.

Strides in Healthcare Infrastructure

Further he discussed the strides in healthcare infrastructure, such as the building of 209 new medical colleges in the last eight years, an increase of 75 percent in undergraduate medical seats, and a doubling of annual medical seats in the country. He credited these advancements to the impact of inclusivity schemes on the growth of the sector.

“Amrit Kaal” Plan: A Roadmap for the Coming 25 Years

In addition to healthcare, PM Modi outlined other initiatives aimed at both inclusion and growth, such as providing six crore tap water connections through the “Har Ghar Jal” scheme and property rights for the most vulnerable sections through the Swamitva schemes. He also discussed the “Amrit Kaal” plan, a roadmap for the coming 25 years with reforms by conviction rather than compulsion.

Partnership of Private and Public Sector in Vaccine Development

He emphasized that his government’s policy making is based on the pulse of the people and that they listen to and understand the needs and aspirations of the citizens, which is why they do not let policy come under the pressure of populist impulses. He highlighted the partnership of the private and public sector in vaccine development for COVID-19 as an example of his approach of minimum government and maximum governance yielding great results.
