As the Combined Commanders’ Conference is set to begin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet the top Military brass of the nation. Organised by the Indian Navy, this year’s edition of the Conference is going to be held from March 30 to April 1 at Kushabhau Thakre Hall in Bhopal.
Among the top military leaders of the country, the Combined Commanders’ Conference will see the Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar. Apart from the service chiefs, the command chiefs of all three services will also be present at the Conference,
During the three-day Combined Commanders’ Conference, Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to review some of the innovations in the field of defence and security in Bhopal. Defence innovations by both private players and developments by defence personnel will be on display at the venue.
What to expect at Combined Commanders’ Conference 2023?
During the visit to the three-day Conference, Prime Minister Modi is expected to address and interact with the top military brass on the current situation of the security and the future challenges that India may face.
The Conference will also be addressed by the Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan while on the second day, Defence Minister Rajnath will review various plans by the three defence services. The Conference, as a platform, will serve to ponder upon the learnings drawn from ongoing conflicts and the fast-moving geopolitical situation around the world.
Further talks on Command Theaterisation?
Combined Commanders’ Conference 2023 may also see further deliberations on the Theaterisation of the various commands of the three defence services. At the Conference, the PM is expected to review the progress made in the integration of the forces.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had pushed the defence services for jointness among the forces to enable themselves to respond effectively, in an integrated manner to future threats. In the last edition of the Conference also, PM Modi reviewed deliberation on the creation of theatre commands along with the creation of the ‘Air Defence Command’.
Previous edition of the Conference
The previous edition of the military brainstorming event was held in March 2021 at Kevadia, Gujarat. With the addition of roughly 30 Officers and soldiers of various ranks from the three Services, the conference’s focus in 2021 had been increased to make it a multi-layered, interactive, informal, and informative event.
Since 2014, the Conference has been moved out to different venues across the country. Noteworthily, the conference was held on board INS Vikramaditya in 2015 and in 2017 at the Indian Military Academy at Dehradun.
The Conference has served the apex military leadership of the country to review the security and defence situation and also to address various organisational concerns. Various deliberations that are held during the Conference help shape India’s strategic stand towards the emerging threats.
