Janata Dal United on Sunday announced that the party's national spokesperson KC Tyagi has resigned from his post and Rajiv Ranjan Prasad has been appointed as the new national spokesperson in his place by party’s national president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
KC Tyagi is considered an old and trusted aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. But his outspoken nature was constantly creating an uncomfortable situation for both Janata Dal United and Nitish Kumar.
Ever since the results of the Lok Sabha elections came on June 4, 2024, KC Tyagi was continuously giving outspoken statements in the media on different issues. KC Tyagi's statements on the ideological issues of the central government and the BJP were creating an uneasy situation between the NDA allies BJP and JDU.
As the election results came, KC Tyagi talked about reviewing the Agniveer scheme. This sent a message that since the Bharatiya Janata Party has not got an absolute majority this time, the allies have started putting pressure on the government even before the formation of the government.
Similarly, he had taken a different stance from that of the BJP and the Prime Minister on the Uniform Civil Code. KC Tyagi's statement on the Supreme Court's decision regarding the classification of reservation for SC-ST was different from the official stance of the Janata Dal United.
KC Tyagi's reaction was the sharpest when the UPSC called for applications for appointment in the Central Government through lateral entry.
KC Tyagi had also criticized the law brought by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for Muslim marriage registration.
KC Tyagi's continuous statements on BJP's ideological issues without discussing it with the party high command were creating discomfort for both BJP and JDU.
But the party lost the patience when KC Tyagi made statements about the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine. He not only criticized Israel but also signed a letter in this regard with opposition leaders. The party considered it as the interference in the government's foreign policy and against coalition dharma. JDU leaders believed that criticism of foreign policy by the spokesperson of an ally of the government is not right. This sends a wrong message. Before making any statement in this regard and signing any letter with opposition leaders, he should have discussed with Bihar Chief Minister and JDU President Nitish Kumar.
Due to the uncomfortable situation being created for the party and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as well as the central government due to KC Tyagi's outspoken nature and especially his statements on ideological issues of the Bharatiya Janata Party without discussing with the high command, Nitish Kumar decided to appoint someone else as the national spokesperson in place of KC Tyagi.
