The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) was founded in 1952 to celebrate films and the journey audience embarks with them. It is a nine-day long celebration from 20th November to 28th November 2022, of magnificent films from around the world. The festival is conducted every year from 1975 onwards by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (Ministry of I&B) in collaboration with the government of the state of Goa. National Film Development Corporation of India Ltd (NFDC) and the Indian Film Industry to actively take part in the organisation of the festival.
On 14th November 2022, the Ministry of I&B addressed the curtain raiser press conference for the festival. At the conference, Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan declared that 280 films from 79 countries will be screened this year. He further added that 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films from India will be showcased in the ‘Indian Panorama’ while 183 films will be a part of international programming.
The theme of the opening ceremony as declared by the Minister of State will be “Evolution of Indian Cinema in the last 100 years.” Union Minister Anurag Thakur is also extensively promoting the festival, recently he tweeted the link for virtually attending the festival.
Bucket full of cinematic celebration:
The Ministry of I&B launched an initiative ‘75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’, to honour 75 young talents. This is in light of the 75 years of celebration of Indian independence. A 53-hour challenge will be given to produce a short film in 53 hours showcasing, the idea of India@100. There will be 23 ‘Masterclasses’ and ‘In Conversation’ sessions with eminent filmmakers and actors. The work of filmmakers from France, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, etc. would be showcased for a period of 9 days.
To make art more inclusive, the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, under its Centre for Open Learning (CFOL) initiative has announced two free courses for persons with disabilities. The course module would include an introduction to the language of cinema, shooting and editing on smartphones.
Ministry of Ayush, as a wellness partner, is also holding sessions for the general public to enjoy yoga and holistic check-ups during the festival period.
