Promoting India’s Mission LiFE at COP27, Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav inaugurated India Pavilion on November 6 2022. The pavilion consists of various mediums, like audiovisuals, logo, 3D models to send out the message of LiFE and draw global attention towards the sustainable alternatives provided by the initiative.
“I am confident that, throughout the duration of COP, India Pavilion will continue to remind the delegates that simple lifestyle and individual practices that are sustainable in nature can help protect Mother Earth,” said Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav.
The Minister is leading the Indian delegation at the 27th Session of Conference of Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27). The conference, which commenced on November 6 will continue till November 18, 2022, and is being conducted at Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Various heads of states and dignitaries across the world are participating in the conference to discuss global climate issues.
Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC
It is a platform where countries come together with an aim to take action towards achieving world’s collective climate goals. The goals were adopted by member countries in the Paris Agreement of which India is also a signatory. The conference is held annually organised by the United Nations.
COP27 should be ‘COP of Action’ with key deliverables having specific focus on defining Climate Finance, outcomes on Adaptation and Loss & Damage said the Minister.
This year in COP27, India will be stressing on Climate finance. Further, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav welcomed adoption of agenda item ‘Loss and Damage finance’ at COP27. India along with other countries had been pursuing for the adoption of an agenda item on Loss and Damage finance.
Mission LiFE
Recently in October 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres launched Mission LiFE at the Statue of Unity, Gujarat. During the launch, the Prime Minister introduced the mantra of ‘Mission Life is Lifestyle for Environment’ and further added that Mission Life encourages the spirit of the P3 model i.e Pro Planet People.
Mission Life is a global initiative taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative was introduced by the Prime Minister during COP26 held in Glasgow in 2021. The movement aims for “mindful and deliberate utilisation, instead of mindless and destructive consumption’ to protect and preserve the environment.
In addition, Mission Life provides a comprehensive and non-exhaustive list of individual LiFE actions which focuses on conservation of energy and water, reduction of single use plastic, adoption of a sustainable food system, reduction of waste, adoption of healthy lifestyle and reduction of e-waste.
