India and Pak were on verge of nuclear war: Mike Pompeo

Former US Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mike Pompeo claimed that India and Pakistan were on the verge of nuclear war following Balakot strike in February 2019. The claim has been made in Pompeo’s just released book. He has also stated that intervention by the US stopped the situation from escalating, reported HS.

Pompio has quoted then Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj saying Pakistan was preparing for the nuclear war and India was prepared to give a fitting reply. In his book ‘Never give an inch’, Pompeo mentioned about the overnight talks with India and Pakistan on February 27-28, when he was in Hanoi for the US-South Korea summit.

Pompeo has written that Pakistan’s Army Chief Gen Javed Bajwa believed that India has started preparations for the nuclear war. The overnight discussion removed the misunderstandings between the two. Indian Foreign Ministry has not made any comment on Pompeo’s claims.
