The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways introduced the High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) in 2001, and it has been a significant step towards ensuring security and safety on Indian roads. The HSRP plate is made up of special 1mm aluminium that is laminated with white or yellow reflective sheets. As per the latest notification by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, it is now mandatory for citizens of India to have HSRP Number Plate for Old Vehicle 2023. This means that all vehicles sold before April 2019 must now have an HSRP plate installed, and colour-coded fuel stickers are also compulsory for old vehicles.
What is HSRP?
The High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) is a tamper-proof vehicle registration/number plate that is made up of aluminium, having a chromium-based hologram, hot-stamped alpha-numerals with retro-reflective sheet, and a laser-etched PIN (laser code). HSRP is now compulsory in India for all vehicles. According to a recent notification, there were around 4 million registered cars without HSRP before 2012 in Delhi alone. Therefore, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made it mandatory for all vehicle owners to register for HSRP Number Plate for Old Vehicle 2023.
HSRP Registration Procedure
The good news is that the registration process for HSRP and colour-coded fuel stickers is quite simple. Vehicle owners can register for their number plates through the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways or get them from authorized vendors in their respective states.
Benefits of HSRP
HSRP is issued for the vehicle owner only when they provide the correct details to the issuing authority. The availability of vehicle registration data will become easy for Enforcement Agencies, which will be helpful in traffic management. Details that are provided by the vehicle owner for HSRP registration include the engine number, model number, copy of valid insurance, and chassis number, among others. These plates are tamper-proof and make it quite easy for the vehicle owner to trace their vehicle in case it is stolen.
HSRP Registration Fees
The HSRP registration fee for two-wheelers is Rs. 400, while for four-wheelers, it is Rs. 1100. The fees for four-wheeler vehicles depend on the category of the vehicle.
HSRP 2023- Color Code Stickers
The Indian Government has made HSRP mandatory for all Indian citizens. Along with HSRP, colour-coded stickers are also mandatory for vehicles having a windscreen. The transport department has given authority to more than 300 dealers to install HSRP and colour-coded fuel stickers. One can get registration online and also get there colour-coded fuel stickers with ease.
