The famous Halwa ceremony- an integral part of the budget finalization process, is resuming this year. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is going to start this ceremony on January 26 before finalising the Budget of FY 2023-24. The Halwa ceremony had not been taking place for last two years due to the Corona epidemic.

The Finance Ministry on Wednesday tweeted that traditional pudding ceremony will be held on January 26 in the presence of union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. According to the ministry, the pudding ceremony will be held in the budget press inside the North Block before finalizing the process of preparing the budget for the union Budget 2023-24.

According to the statement released by the ministry, like the last two union budgets, this time the union Budget will be paperless. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present a budget of FY 2023-24 in Parliament on February 1. The Finance Ministry said that the budget documents will be available on both Android and Apple OS platforms on the “Union Budget Mobile App” on both Android and Apple OS after completion of the Finance Minister’s budget speech in Parliament on February 1. The Halwa ceremony will be attended by union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with union Minister of State for Finance, Secretary of Finance Ministry and members of union Budget Press.

In Indian culture, the beginning of any auspicious work is done with some sweets. Hence, the pudding ceremony is celebrated before the budget is presented since independence. Halwa Ceremony is celebrated in the premises of 10 North Block of the Ministry of Finance. Halwa ceremony is always organized after the budget preparation is completed. The pudding ceremony is also considered an indicator of the completion of the budget.
