US President Joe Biden re-nominated former Los Angeles Mayor Eric M. Garcetti as US Ambassador to India.

The President Biden on Tuesday has sent a list of nominations to Senate, including that of former Metro CEO Phil Washington as new head of the Federal Aviation Administration, to fill-in the significant positions. It is pertinent to note that the position of US Ambassador to India has been lying vacant for nearly two years.

"Eric M. Garcetti, of California, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of India," the statement by the White House reads.

Hours later the announcement, addressing a question over Garcetti's nomination, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that Garcetti is well qualified to serve in this vital role.

"So, look, as Secretary Blinken said very recently, our relationship with India is crucial and it's consequential, so we see this as a very important nomination," the Press Secretary added.

It is pertinent to note that the former Los Angeles Mayor had been nominated to serve on the significant position earlier as well, but the final approval to the appointment was put on hold in Senate over alleged accusations against Garcetti that he ignored serious allegations levelled against one of his top aide. However, the claim was repeatedly denied by Garcetti. Reportedly, President Biden have had nominated Garcetti to serve as the US Ambassador to India originally on July 9, 2021.

While exuding confidence this time over the appointment, the White House Press Secretary said, "And as been--as you know--been reported, we'll continue to seek the confirmation of Mayor Garcetti, who has--who was, as you all know, voted out of committee unanimously and with strong bipartisan support to serve as ambassador to India."

"And that's important, as we're talking about bipartisanship, as we're talking how we're going to move forward. And this is what you saw with his particular nomination. And we're hopeful that the full Senate will confirm him promptly," she added.
