Bhutanese King to arrive on official visit to India starting Monday

To further strengthen the existing, close and unique India-Bhutan ties, Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is paying an official visit to India, the details of which have been officially announced by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Accompanied by high level officials of the Royal Government of Bhutan, the MEA in a statement informed, the Bhutanese King is arriving here in New Delhi at the invitation of President Droupadi Murmu on a three-day official visit starting Monday.

Elaborating on the details of the visit, the Ministry of External Affairs said the King's visit, which will start on April 3 and last until April 5, is being held in line with the longstanding tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan. Further, during the visit, the King would also participate in several of the significant meetings of bilateral importance.

According to the MEA release, during the three-day visit, the Bhutanese King will meet with President  Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, wherein both sides will chair discussions on the entire gamut of India-Bhutan bilateral cooperation.

"The visit would provide an opportunity to both sides to review the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation and to further advance the close bilateral partnership, including economic and development cooperation," the MEA added.

Notably, India and Bhutan share longstanding, mutually beneficial cooperation in a wide range of sectors. Both countries enjoy unique ties of friendship and cooperation, which are characterised by understanding and mutual trust. India has also contributed significantly to the socio-economic development of Bhutan in line with the priorities and needs of the people and government of Bhutan.

Recently, the Government of India released an amount of Nu./INR 4110 million for key development projects being implemented across Bhutan. These bilateral friendship projects are being executed in sectors such as physical infrastructure, education, culture, skill development, export promotion, and trade facilitation. Significantly, both countries are working together to further strengthen India- Bhutan close and unique ties of friendship and cooperation.
