Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday hailed the Mahayuti alliance’s “unprecedented victory” in the state’s assembly elections, asserting that there would be “no dispute” regarding the Chief Minister’s position.
Fadnavis addressed reporters in Mumbai, stating that the overwhelming support for Mahayuti, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction), was a clear endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “The people of Maharashtra have given us an unprecedented victory. This shows that the people are with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In line with the slogan he gave, ‘ek hain toh safe hain,’ people from all sections and communities voted for us unitedly,” Fadnavis said.
He went on to emphasize that the victory was not just for Mahayuti but for the unity within the alliance, mentioning key leaders such as Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale. “This is the victory of Mahayuti, CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, and Ramdas Athawale. This is the victory of unity,” he added.
Addressing concerns regarding the Chief Minister’s position, Fadnavis confirmed that there would be no disagreements. “It was decided from day one that after the elections, the leaders of the three parties would sit together and decide on the Chief Minister. There will be no dispute on the CM’s face. The decision will be acceptable to everyone, there is no dispute on this,” he clarified.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his gratitude toward the BJP central leadership for their unwavering support during the campaign. “I thank all the workers of Mahayuti. PM Modi, Amit Shah bhai, Nadda ji – all supported us. They gave priority to Maharashtra. I am proud that I have been proven right about what I had said—that we will win 200 seats. We (Mahayuti) fought like a team,” Shinde said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the entire Mahayuti alliance, including Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar, and Fadnavis, as they are on track to secure a landslide victory in the assembly elections.
As of now, Mahayuti has secured or is leading in 224 of the 288 seats in the Maharashtra assembly, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is leading or has won 54 seats.
